Speaker and Topics

Jim Mailey- North American Deck and Railing Association (NADRA) Deck Evaluation. This is the same class taught in preparation for taking the NADRA Certification Exam. The test can be done at the Great Plains Fall Seminar or taken online with 30 days after the class. There is an additional fee for a one year membership and certification test. Deck inspection education is valuable even if you choose not to take the test and become certified.

Jim Funkhouser- Communications 101.   Jim will teach us about how to handle the different personality types we encounter during our inspections including Clients: The Nervous Nelly, the Cavalier, the Engineer, the Dad, the Doubting Thomas, the Conspiracy Theorist. Agents:  The Whiners, the General, the Skeptic and the Hapless. Sellers:  The Angry Man, Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered. The seminar will include some home inspector participation exercises.

Kenna Lewis-Social Media Marketing Since our buyers shop for inspectors online, understanding and using online marketing is necessary for all home inspection businesses. This course exposes you to various methods to increase your visibility online in the different social media platforms.

Lauren Johnson-Liftmaster Garage Door Inspections There is so much more to inspecting a garage door opener than just pushing the button. This class takes a systematic approach to inspecting all the components of the garage door and opener.

Jeremy Biswell-Fireplace Inspection and Safety This course explains various fireplaces, inserts and other hearth appliances. It will show what is a level 2 inspection and examine the various safety concerns with fireplace installation defects.

David Goldstein- Stucco, Adhered Manufactured Stone Veneer and Other Siding Inspections The exterior siding of the house is a very important water protection surface for the house and must be installed correctly. Common installation defects and the damage they cause will be discussed. David will show us what we should be looking for in our inspections.

David Goldstein- Report Writing to Keep Yourself Out of Court In addition to his successful home inspection business and home inspector training courses, David helps home inspectors develop legal documents designed to keep you out of court. Here he will explain how your inspection report can protect you as well as communicate defects and exclusions effectively.

Reuben Saltzman-New Home Inspections New homes DO need to be inspected. Some of our favorite inspection horror stories are about new construction properties. Reuben will cover how a new house inspection is performed and how to pay special attention to items that are particular to new construction.
